Melbourne socialite Lillian Frank dies aged 92
Melbourne socialite and philanthropist Lillian Frank has died aged 92.
Known as the city’s first influencer, the icon used her popularity and social standing for good.
Her daughter Jackie announced her death on Saturday, saying that the family has ‘lost the heart and soul’ and that their hearts will be ‘broken forever’.
“She lived life to the max, without any regrets and was forever grateful. She saw things through rose coloured glasses,” Jackie wrote.
“She had a very public life and I was often asked what’s it like growing up with Lillian Frank as your mum? My answer, to us she was mum, to my kids nani and the most spectacular selfless human being in the world with the biggest heart.”

Jackie shared a slideshow of images, showing how full and vibrant Lillian’s life really was.
“No matter what adversity she had to face, and there were many, she saw the good in everyone and everything,” her daughter added.
Lillian’s extensive charity work was recognised when she was made a Member of the Order of Australia in 1991.
Jackie touched on her mother’s achievements, adding: “She used her flamboyant personality and social standing for good, raising millions and millions for charity.”
The socialite was born in Burma in 1930, and fled to India during the war. She travelled to the UK and lived with her aunt, before settling in Australia for good.
She built up her own business as a high-profile hairdresser in Toorak, Victoria.
Tributes for the fashion icon came flowing in, with Australian celebrities sending love.
“Oh Jackie I’m so sorry. Fond memories of her appearing on our show. One of a kind,” Sunrise’s Nat Barr wrote.
“So sorry to hear this. Sending so much love and condolences,” model Nadia Bartel commented.
“Oh Jackie. So sad to read this. Sending you all my love and deepest condolences. What a bloody amazing woman she was!! Added sparkle and smiles to everyone [in] our lives,” fashion designer Toni Matičevski added.
Lillian leaves behind her husband Richard, after 66 years of marriage, and their two daughters Jackie and Michelle.
