Metal pole in Walsall causes evacuation amid bomb fears

An industrial estate was evacuated over fears of an unexploded bomb that turned out to be a metal pole.

Police were called by contractors working at a factory unit on the Westgate Trading Estate in Aldridge, Walsall, just before 13:00 GMT on Tuesday.

The site was evacuated and a cordon established while a bomb disposal team attended the scene.

Police later confirmed the true nature of the object causing concern.

A spokeswoman for the West Midlands force said: "We were alerted to a potential unexploded device by contractors working at a factory unit on an industrial estate in Aldridge just before 1pm today.

"A cordon was put in place and Explosive Ordinance Disposal attended who found the item to be a metal pole."
