Michelle Williams has split from her husband less than a year after their secret wedding.
According to a source quoted by People, Williams and her indie musician husband Phil Elverum have split within a year of quietly marrying in front of close family and friends.
Speculation was already rife after The Greatest Showman star was spotted out and about without her wedding ring recently, and a source claims to confirm the matter.
“Michelle and Phil separated at the beginning of the year. It was an amicable split and they remain friends,” the source is quoted by People as saying.
The couple reportedly bonded over their shared experience of being left as single parents after suffering the loss of a partner.
Michelle was famously left a single mum to daughter Matilda after her partner Health Ledger’s tragic death in 2008.
Elverum is a single dad to his 3-year-old daughter from his first marriage, after his wife of thirteen years died from cancer just over a year after their daughter’s birth.
Michelle originally opened up about the couple’s whirlwind romance last July when she confirmed the marriage, and told Vanity Fair that Elverum was the first time she’d found love after Ledger’s death.
Michelle and the late actor famously shared a daughter Matilda, and the actress opened up to the magazine saying she was always open to love after the shattering loss.
“I never gave up on love. I always say to Matilda, ‘Your dad loved me before anybody thought I was talented, or pretty, or had nice clothes,’” she said at the time.
