Mick Jagger Says Fatherhood Is Not 'Like Riding a Bike': 'You Get a Bit Out of Practice'
The rocker is dad to 8 kids, including 6-year-old son Deveraux
Mick Jagger is opening up about his approach to fatherhood as he enters his 80s.
While speaking with The Guardian, the Rolling Stones frontman, 80, discussed parenting his son Deveraux, 6, and how his experience with fatherhood has changed over the years.
"You get a bit out of practice — it's not like riding a bike," the famous rocker said of fatherhood. "The more children you have, the more laissez-faire you get about them, to be honest."
"And it depends on the child. They have their own personalities and you can mold them to a certain extent, but you see their likes and dislikes and encourage them do things they gravitate towards. It's fun to have children, at any age. But if you're working, and always away, you don't get to enjoy it as much."

Jagger said that when son Deveraux was born, "I wasn't working so much, so I was able to spend more time. And then we had the lockdown — he's only 6, and two of those years I did almost nothing [with the band]."
The musician shares Deveraux with girlfriend Melanie Hamrick, 36. He is also dad to daughter Karis, 52, whom he shares with actress Marsha Hunt, and daughter Jade, 52, with ex-wife Bianca Jagger.
Jagger also shares four children with ex-wife Jerry Hall, whom he was married to from 1990 to 1997: daughters Elizabeth, 39, and Georgia May, 31, and sons James, 38, and Gabriel, 25. He welcomed son Lucas, 24, with model Luciana Morad Gimenez.
For his 80th birthday this past July, the rocker's girlfriend posted a sweet birthday tribute to Jagger on her Instagram, which included an adorable photo of the couple with their son Deveraux.
In the photo, Hamrick and Jagger had their arms around each other while Deveraux held onto his father's leg.
"Happy birthday my love," Hamrick captioned the photos.
Earlier this summer, in an interview with The Times Magazine, the rocker's girlfriend opened up about juggling her schedule as a working mom to Deveraux as she embarked on the next chapter of her career — debuting her first novel, First Position, a ballet-based romance that the former professional dancer said kept her connected to the art after letting it go to focus on family.
Detailing the family's "magical" travels to the outlet, she noted that the pair prefers to live "just full nomad" with their son.
“We want to travel as long as we can until school gets us,” she shared, explaining that the little boy — who goes by Dev — has a tutor who travels with them. Dev is enrolled in a school in Los Angeles and “goes [to school] a little bit when we’re in France."
