Mum shamed for breastfeeding at Disneyland hits back

We often hear stories about women who are shamed for breastfeeding in public, but one family may have inadvertently captured the two women they believe to be “haters” in the act.

In a Facebook post gone viral, Brittni Medina recounts the alleged public shaming that she received for nursing her child at Disneyland.

“So we are APs (annual passholders) and go to Disney often. Well my little man is 10 months and BF (breastfeeding)!” Medina begins her post. “So we’re pretty comfortable feeding anywhere, anyway. Well these ladies were so angry by it, my husband just had to take a picture. Peep the haters.”

The picture shows Medina breastfeeding, smiling into the camera, as two women stare at her in the background.

“Characters of the day. Just had to get a picture!” Medina wrote, before being flooded with comments.

“You’re a good mama. Your smile and care for your baby is so beautiful compared to those women,” one mom commented.

“Feed wherever and whenever you need to mama! I had to feed my kiddo while walking around Times Square this summer because there was nowhere to sit!”Another mom wrote. “I walked probably four blocks like this and surprisingly I even got a few ‘air’ high fives in support. LOL.”

Others questioned Medina as to why she felt the need to breastfeed in such a public place filled with children.

“I’m all for breastfeeding. I breastfed three of my four kids, and for an extended amount, and I’ll nurse in public, but this is too far!” wrote one mom.

“You don’t need to take off your whole shirt to nurse! I’m sure that’s why you’ve got people talking! There’s nothing but kids around, they don’t need to see all your boobs flopping around everywhere!”

Medina updated her post after the horde of questions.

“Because people want to act all bent out of shape, no I was not walking around feeding him in this moment,” she said, but noted that she “has done it before” and would do it again.

“I was standing in a very long line to get our picture taken, my son got hungry and I wasn’t going to wait in another line again. So I took off my first top and nursed. These women were making snarky comments so I moved from my spot to catch a picture with these characters. Not for attention for me, but attention to the fact NO WOMEN SHOULD BE SHAMED FOR FEEDING THEIR BABY UNCOVERED.”
