Nash Creek man sentenced to 8 years in shooting death of Belledune man
A 40-year-old Nash Creek man has been sentenced to eight years in prison in the 2022 death of a 39-year-old Belledune man.
Nathan Meade was sentenced in Campbellton Court of King's Bench on Monday after pleading guilty in May to manslaughter in the death of Scott Devereaux.
Meade was originally charged with second-degree murder, but that was withdrawn when he pleaded guilty to the lesser charge.
RCMP said the case dates back to November 2022, when they were called to a residence in Nash Creek on an unrelated matter.
When they arrived, police said they approached Meade, who told them he had shot someone.
Devereaux's body was found behind a shed on the property.
Meade will receive credit for time served while awaiting trial.
