Neighbours star Stefan Dennis slams Logies over brutal snub: 'F**k off'

Just over a week after Neighbours actor Ryan Moloney slammed the Logies for their “horrible” treatment of the show’s cast, his co-star Stefan Dennis has also called out the awards ceremony.

The veteran actor, who is the soap opera’s sole remaining original cast member, spoke about his disappointment with the Logies while saying a final goodbye to the Ramsay Street set on Wednesday.

“It was a sore point, the old Logies, I’m pretty pissed off and I wasn’t alone,’’ he said. “I was trying to keep check because I didn’t want to get angry and turn it into a bad night. It was basically a snub.

“38 years, the longest-running show in Australian television history with the accolades it has, it’s about the industry and what the show has been and meant for four decades.

“For it to get a tribute of 40 seconds, f**k off.”

Jackie Woodburne, who has played Susan Kennedy on the show since 1994, also shared her frustration with the Logies.

“I thought it was very disrespectful to us and to the industry,’’ she said. “That was the best they could do. It felt like a slap in the face and undeserved because I know how hard everyone works.

“It was very unsophisticated,” she added. “Why bother? If you can’t do it properly, why bother?”

While speaking on 2Day FM’s Hughesy, Ed and Erin last week, Ryan Moloney went on a furious rant about the Logies and the fact that they chose Daniel MacPherson and Natalie Bassingthwaighte to represent the show on stage instead of current cast members.

“Daniel and Nat are just absolutely gorgeous people and absolutely nothing against them, but we’ve got people who have been on TV for nearly 30 years each, and I think probably the least they could do is get us to actually say something,” he said.

“We’re in the bloody Hall of Fame, if this is how you treat people, a show that’s in the Hall of Fame, then good luck to the Logies really.”

‘A huge disappointment’

It was announced back in March that Neighbours had been officially cancelled after over 37 years and almost 9000 episodes.

“Following the loss of our key broadcast partner in the UK and despite an extensive search for alternative funding, we simply have no option but to rest the show,” a statement shared on the show's Instagram page read.

“To our amazing, loyal fans, we know this is a huge disappointment, as it is to all of us on the team. We thank you for all your messages and support and promise to end the show on an incredible high. From here on, we are celebrating Neighbours.”

The final episode, which will be 90 minutes and feature the return of former stars Jason Donovan and Kylie Minogue, will be simulcast on 10 and 10 Peach on Thursday, July 28 at 7:30pm.
