Neil Henry sacked as Gold Coast Titans coach

Gold Coast have made their choice, sacking coach Neil Henry after player power contributed to his downfall.

Titans chief executive Graham Annesley confirmed the decision in a press conference on Monday afternoon.

The boss hit out at speculation that a feud between Jarryd Hayne and Henry led to the decision.

"What we said to the senior players this morning is that the club, or the board, had to make a decision taking all of the information into consideration, including the views of the senior players," Annesley said.

"There is a view that this is a player-driven outcome. Well if it was a player-driven outcome, Neil would still be the coach.

"The board has a wider responsibility and they have a legal obligation as company directors to take what they believe to be the right decision in the circumstances for the club.

"It has nothing to do with personalities or particular points of view of individuals. It's about assessing all of the information and hopefully making the right decision. Time will tell."

But 7 News Brisbane reporter Chris Garry says the board's call was made easier when Henry said last week to choose between him and Hayne, who is under contract for next season.

Annesley did not confirm Hayne's long-term future with the club, sayong only that "like all of our contracted players we expect them to perform their contractual obligations".

Terry Matterson and Craig Hodges will share coaching duties for the remaining two games of the season.

Queensland Origin coach Kevin Walters has been speculated as a contender for the full-time position.
