Netflix celebrated the first anniversary of its ad-supported plan launch by confirming/teasing a few new features.
In a Wednesday AM blog post directed at advertisers/clients, the streaming giant said that one year into offering an ad-supported subscription plan, “Our goal isn’t just to offer the same products and tools the industry has come to expect…. It’s to build something bigger and better than what exists today.”

Among the new and upcoming updates to the ad-supported plan, the Netflix blog post reads, “After watching three consecutive episodes, members will be presented with a fourth episode ad-free.”
It was also revealed that in early 2024, advertisers will have the ability to present viewers with scannable QR codes, in advertising creative running in the U.S.

Netflix also confirmed that since launching the ad-supported plan, it has “upgraded the feature set of our ads plan to include 1080p versus 720p video quality, two concurrent streams, and downloads to become available by the end of this week.” Meaning that soon, “All members of the ad-supported plan will be able to download their favorite series and movies, making Netflix the only ad-supported streamer to offer downloads.”
Netflix recently announced that its basic, advertising-free plan would increase from $9.99/month to $11.99/month (for those already subscribed), while the premium, Ultra HD-infused, multiple-device plan got hiked from $19.99/month to $22.99/month.
But the prices for Netflix’s two most popular tiers — the standard plan with ads, as well as the standard plan without ads — remained unchanged at $6.99 and $15.49, respectively.
