Good news for fans of Formula 1 who want to go a little bit deeper into the world of motorsport.

F1 has announced a partnership with Netflix (who else?) to air a ten-episode documentary series focusing on the 2018 season.

The documentary is apparently going to give fans "unprecedented access" behind the scenes of the 2018 FIA World Championship, focusing not just on the drivers, but the team principals and owners, as well as the management team behind Formula 1.

The docuseries won't just look at the 2018 season, but will also look at the future of the sport, and the "intense fight" over the direction F1 should be heading in the future.

James Gay Rees, producer of the excellent Senna film from 2010, will be executive producing the project, which is set to air early next year.

F1's Managing Director of Commercial Operations, Sean Bratches, said of the deal: "Formula 1 is a global sport that we are actively repositioning from a motorsport company to a media and entertainment brand.

"The agreement with Netflix serves to chronicle the fascinating story of what transpires behind the scenes during a grand prix season. This is a perspective of the sport that has yet to be unveiled to fans around the world.

"This series will unleash a compelling vantage point to the sport that will delight fans and serve as a catalyst to entice new fans."

Channel 4 currently covers the F1, as a mix of live races and highlights (like today's Australian GP qualifier), but Sky is taking over as of 2019. With the F1 TV service also a thing, it looks like the way we consume the sport is changing pretty rapidly.
