New Zealand’s leading premium automotive brand and only international fashion week have formed a partnership to support local fashion talent through the New Zealand Fashion Week (NZFW) New Generation programme.
Supporting 2013’s New Generation designers, Crooked Seven, Nara Paz and Beverley Riverina, to show their collections on the NZFW catwalk, together NZFW and BMW will help them make their mark on the fashion world.
"We are proud to once again be the driving force behind the nation’s premier fashion event, and support the New Generation designers to help raise the profile of these aspiring designers," said the Managing Director of BMW New Zealand, Nina Englert.
"Intrinsic synergies exist between fashion and vehicle design, being that both signify innovation, functionality and desirability. Equally, they share an expectation to constantly evolve, develop trends, and deliver a premium product that represents unrivalled quality", said Ms Englert.
This collaboration not only ensures their designs are seen on the catwalk, but also on the streets of Auckland as each designer is given the opportunity to transform an Ultimate Driving Machine into a unique illustration of their collection.
The New Generation programme includes a Boot Camp where the designers receive mentoring from some of the biggest names in the business to help them prepare for their show and the world of business.
Crooked Seven, Nara Paz and Beverley Riverina will attend the Boot Camp on Friday 16 August where they will hear from key members of the NZFW team and an impressive line-up of guest speakers.
Nina Englert will offer the designers some insight into one of the world’s most reputable brands, and share the success story behind the Ultimate Driving Machine. Renowned Chef and BMW Brand Ambassador, Josh Emett, will join one of New Zealand’s fashion industry business leaders, Dan Gosling, owner of Black Box Boutique and co-owner of Stolen Girlfriend’s Club, to provide sound business and branding advice.
Following Boot Camp, Crooked Seven, Nara Paz and Beverley Riverina will reveal their personal design work, which will be wrapped around the body of an all-new BMW 3 Series Touring or X1. These three vehicles will spearhead the official NZFW Fleet and will be seen around Auckland in the build up to and during this year’s event, transporting VIP’s around the city.
This year BMW will also add a new and exciting element to the programme offering one of the 2013 New Generation Designers a much-needed financial boost, with the BMW People’s Choice award.
A piece from each designer’s collection and their vehicle wrap design with be on display inside the Viaduct Events Centre throughout NZFW. Voting for this award will run throughout the event and everyone attending will have the chance to vote for their favorite New Generation Designer.
The winner will be announced at the conclusion of the New Generation show on 5 September, and the respective designer will be presented with $5,000 from BMW to go towards further developing their business career.
