Red Bull driver Sergio Perez has apologised to his wife after explosive footage of him with other women was circulated online.

Perez says he takes "full responsibility" for the controversy after he was filmed partying with a number of woman after winning the Monaco Grand Prix.

Videos emerged on social media showing the 32-year-old dancing with his arms around at least two different women.

One particularly incriminating image shows his arms wrapped around the waist of a lady on the dance floor and his head resting on her shoulder.

Addressing the controversy on Instagram, the Mexican insisted that it was a "very bad" party and that his actions were completely out of character.

“I have seen the videos that have been circulating about me and I take responsibility for it.

“It was a bad party that I didn’t know how to control at the height of the person that I am, but it was just that, a very bad party. People close to me know my values and the type of person that I am.

“For those who ask me, we are more united than ever, me and my wife. And for those who just want to hurt us, I wish you the best.

“Thank you all for your love and I apologise to all the people who love me because those videos don’t represent me, not at all. We will not talk about this topic anymore, which only makes us forget the great moment we are living as a family. Thank you.”

The drama threatens to overshadow what has been a brilliant F1 season for Perez, whose win in Monaco came after a second-placed finish in Spain.

Sergio Perez in three-way battle for F1 championship

Perez is 15 points of Red Bull teammate and championship leader Max Verstappen in what is shaping as a three-way battle with Ferrari's Charles Leclerc for the F1 championship.

Red Bull team boss Christian Horner said it “doesn’t matter to us which of the two is World Champion”, with F1 great Damon Hill insisting a mid-season burst could put the Mexican firmly in with a shot at the title.

“I think he’s bunched up the whole championship, actually,” Hill said to Sky Sports News about Perez.

“If you look at it now, there was Sergio saying in Spain he was upset he had been given team orders and he wants to fight for the title. But he’s only 15 points behind Max Verstappen now, so it’s tight and there are lots of drivers in the mix.

“In some ways, it’s just made it more of a close title fight for the rest of the season. We’ve had changes in form, so it was unusual to see Sergio ahead of Max on the grid [in Monaco].

“Sergio likes Baku, which is the next race. You might find Sergio putting on a bit of a mid-season spurt and attack on the championship.”
