Tennis star's brutal sledge for teen rival during handshake

Former World No.1 Angelique Kerber has been caught on microphone calling Canadian upstart Bianca Andreescu “the biggest drama queen ever”.

The comment was delivered as the pair shared a frosty handshake after Andreescu defeated Kerber for the second time in a week.

The Canadian young gun toppled Kerber 6-4, 4-6, 6-1 at the Miami Open, winning through to the round of 16.

Andreescu had earlier defeated Kerber to win the women’s singles title at Indian Wells.

Tennis writer Ben Rothernberg reported Andreescu had heard the remark.

“She said something, but I’m not sure what,” Andreescu said.

“I just didn’t say anything, whatever, I’m not trying to focus on that. I’ll just let my tennis talk.

“Nothing was really going on in my head, but I was just super tired.

“I just tried to save as much energy as possible but I left it all out there today. I felt that she wasn’t playing her best tennis, so I kind of just fed off of that.”

Barty blazes on as Osaka crashes out

Ashleigh Barty has progressed to the fourth of the Miami Open after winning her all-Australian showdown against Samantha Stosur in straight sets.

In the second career match between the two players, it was the nation’s top-ranked player who came out on top against former US Open champion Stosur.

Barty earned a comprehensive 6-0 6-3 win in 58 minutes and the scoreline could have been even more definitive.

Meanwhile, Naomi Osaka faces losing her world No.1 ranking after just two months following a shock defeat at the Miami Open.

The top seed collapsed after winning the first set as tour veteran Hsieh Su-Wei won 4-6 7-6 (7-4) 6-3 to reach the fourth round.

Osaka’s departure matched the earliest exit by a top-seeded woman at the Florida tournament.
