Report: Seahawks' DK Metcalf will likely be fined, not suspended, after ejection vs. Packers

·2-min read

Seattle Seahawks wide receiver DK Metcalf was ejected from Sunday's 17-0 loss to the Green Bay Packers with less than two minutes left, but it doesn't look like his punishment will keep him from starting in Week 11.

According to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, Metcalf will be evaluated for a fine, but will avoid a suspension.

Metcalf was ejected after getting into a scuffle with two Packers following an incomplete pass. He grabbed the face mask of one of the players, which is something you're really not supposed to do at any time, before his teammates intervened. As he was walking away, more Packers came over to jaw at him, presumably for trying to fight with their teammate, and Metcalf grabbed the face mask of a second player.

Metcalf tried to sneak back into the game

Metcalf may have been ejected, but he wasn't ready to leave the game. A short time after being tossed, he tried to sneak his way back into the game by casually entering the huddle and hoping the referees wouldn't notice.

Shockingly, it didn't work and he was sent back off the field.

Former New York Mets manager Bobby Valentine tried nearly the same thing in 1999. After being ejected from an extra-innings game against the Toronto Blue Jays, Valentine came back into the dugout wearing a disguise. He wore a hat, sunglasses, and a mustache made of eyeblack stickers.

He was recognized pretty much instantly and received a two-game suspension and a fine.

The only thing missing from Metcalf's reentry attempt was a disguise. He entered the huddle wearing his own jersey, which is why he was recognized immediately. If he'd grabbed someone else's jersey and put it on, he might've had a chance to fool the refs and pull off one of the most hilarious tricks in NFL history.
