Nicole Kidman Made A Rare Comment About What Her Marriage To Tom Cruise Was Like
Nicole Kidman spoke about her marriage to Tom Cruise (for the first time in like, a while) in a new interview with New York Times Magazine.
Nicole said that things between her and Tom were great while they were filming Eyes Wide Shut together.
Ah, it is once again time to read all about the once celebrity marriage from yester-year that you legit always forget about, don't even lie! I'm talking about Nicole Kidman and Tom Cruise, y'all, because for the first time in forever, Nicole actually opened up about their 11-year marriage and what it was like filming Eyes Wide Shut together with director Stanley Kubrick back in 1999.
In an interview with New York Times Magazine, Nicole revealed that she and Tom actually had a great time working on the film, despite it taking waaaaay longer than they expected. "We loved working with him. We shot that for two years. We had two kids and were living in a trailer on the lot primarily, making spaghetti because Stanley liked to eat with us sometimes. We were working with the greatest filmmaker and learning about our lives and enjoying our lives on set," she said.
As much and Nicole and Tom enjoyed filming with Stanley, there were times where they would wonder when they could just go back home:
"We would say, “When is it going to end?” We went over there thinking it was going to be three months. It turned into a year, a year and a half," Nicole continued. "But you go, 'As long as I surrender to what this is, I’m going to have an incredible time.' Stanley, he wasn’t torturous. He was arduous in that he would shoot a lot. But I’d sit on the floor of his office and talk, and we’d watch animal videos."
The interviewer then asked Nicole if the movie's theme of repeated infidelity affected her relationship with Tom in any way. Thankfully, it didn't since their union was super strong at the time!
"That fits the narrative that people came up with, but I definitely didn’t see it like that. We were happily married through that," she said. "We would go go-kart racing after those scenes. We’d rent out a place and go racing at 3 in the morning. I don’t know what else to say. Maybe I don’t have the ability to look back and dissect it. Or I’m not willing to."
Not exactly sure what happened between Nicole and Tom between then and 2001 when their marriage ended and that now-iconic picture of Nicole leaving the divorce office was released, but it's nice to hear it was good while it lasted. RIP.
