'I'm terrified': Nicole Kidman's fear of losing family after heartbreak

Nicole Kidman has opened up about the effect numerous family and friend’s deaths have had on her.

In an interview with the Sydney Morning Herald, the 53-year-old actress - who is currently living in Byron Bay as she films her latest drama series, Nine Perfect Strangers - said she’s always fearful of having loved ones suddenly taken away from her.

The Big Little Lies actress has experienced significant heartbreak over the last few years, losing friends, Stanley Kubrick in 1999 and Robert McCann in 2005, with her father Antony Kidman passing away in 2014 and her brother-in-law, Angus Hawley, in 2015.

"I've been given death as a very sudden thing. I've not nursed someone through a slow death, I've just had people taken,” Nicole said.

“We've just had people that one minute are here, and then gone.

"I've now had it happen repeatedly, I almost get scared saying it because I get terrified it's going to happen again. I still have a lot of fear of that. I have enormous fear of that. We all have something, right?”

Nicole went on to say that she is working with a therapist to deal with her fear around death.

In June this year, Nicole was reported to have been left ‘heartbroken’ over the loss of her mentor and renowned filmmaker Joel Schumacher, who passed away at the age of 80.

The Australian actress, who worked on films such as Batman Forever and Trespass, with the director, took to her Instagram account to pay tribute to the Hollywood legend.

“I’m heartbroken. Joel was a friend of intelligence, compassion and humour - a director with a twinkle in his eye, a nurturing spirit and many stories to tell. He will be missed,” she said.

Nicole was hit with another blow on the same day when another former friend, Steve Bing, who wrote the comedy film Kangaroo Jack, also died at the age of 55.

Back in 2004 and 2005, the pair were linked after they were spotted out for dinner at an LA restaurant together, with the Daily Mail reporting at the time that they were “giggling and snuggling up to each other like two teenagers”.

Nicole went on to marry Keith Urban in 2006.

The couple caused controversy when they were granted special permission by the NSW Government in July to quarantine at their Southern Highlands home with their two children, Sunday Rose and Faith Margaret, instead of at a state-mandated hotel.
