Nine Ukrainian civilians, including two children, murdered by Russians in occupied Donetsk Oblast
An investigation has been launched into the murder of nine family members by Russian occupiers in Volnovakha, Donetsk Oblast, the Donetsk Oblast Prosecutor’s Office disclosed on Oct. 30.
Preliminary findings from the investigation suggest that Russian military personnel, reportedly Chechens, carried out the killings on Oct. 27. Prosecutors confirmed that these armed individuals demanded that the family vacate their home to make way for a Russian army unit.

When the 53-year-old homeowner refused, the attackers allegedly made threats of physical violence and departed. They returned later and while the family was asleep, opened fire, resulting in the tragic deaths of nine family members, including three women and two children aged five and nine.
Advisor to the mayor of Mariupol, Petro Andriushchenko, reported the murders in Volnovakha on Oct. 29. He said that this is the most significant crime committed by Russians since the occupation.

The Russian Investigative Committee acknowledged the discovery of nine bodies in Volnovakha. Additionally, the Russian publication Astra, citing information from neighbors and relatives, claimed that the murders were carried out by a Russian military serviceman who had allegedly been involved in a dispute with the deceased husband.
Local residents have stated that the victims were shot in their own beds during the night of Oct. 28, following the celebration of the husband’s mother’s birthday. It is suspected that the perpetrators may be affiliated with the Chechen warlord Ramzan Kadyrov’s militants.
