Peacock back in May ordered to series the new, yet-to-be-titled comedy from Greg Daniels (who adapted the UK’s The Office for us yanks) and Nathan for You co-creator Michael Koman.
In the mockumentary-style series “set in the same universe” as NBC’s Steve Carell-fronted The Office, the intrepid, tireless documentary crew that immortalized Dunder Mifflin’s Scranton branch is in search of a new subject when they discover a dying historic Midwestern newspaper, and the publisher trying to revive it with volunteer reporters.
As previously reported, Domhnall Gleeson (Alice & Jack) and Sabrina Impacciatore (The White Lotus) will lead the ensemble cast.
On Thursday, Peacock added four more to the spinoff, including comedian Alex Edelman (who, in September, won the Primetime Emmy for Outstanding Writing for a Variety Special, for his HBO comedy special Alex Edelman: Just for Us). Other new additions include Gbemisola Ikumelo (A League Of Their Own), Tim Key (The Witchfinder) and relative newcomer Eric Rahill. The quartet, whose roles have not been disclosed, join previously announced ensemble members Melvin Gregg (Snowfall), Chelsea Frei (The Cleaning Lady) and Ramona Young (Never Have I Ever).
Edelman, Ikumelo and Rahill will also serve as writers on the project.
The Office: 10 Characters We’d Like to See Return for Peacock Spinoff
“It’s been more than 10 years since the final episode of The Office aired on NBC, and the acclaimed comedy series continues to gain popularity and build new generations of fans on Peacock,” Lisa Katz, president, scripted content, NBCU Entertainment said in May. “In partnership with Universal Television and led by the creative team of Greg Daniels and Michael Koman, this new series set in the universe of Dunder Mifflin introduces a new cast of characters in a fresh setting ripe for comedic storytelling: a daily newspaper.”
The new series — which is rumored to be titled The Paper — will be executive-produced by Daniels and Koman along with UK Office creators Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant, plus Howard Klein, Ben Silverman and Banijay Americas (fka Reveille).
