In the first full, fantastical trailer for Netflix’s Bright, Will Smith‘s police officer character, Ward, has to confront a fairy in a bird feeder — making it clear from the start that we’re not in for an average cop drama.

Ward lives in a world with humans, orcs, and elves. And soon, we see him team up with a new partner in the force — an orc named Jakoby, played by Joel Edgerton. Suffice to say, Ward isn’t exactly enthused about the partnership, but as long as Jakoby has his back, he’s all good.

And it turns out, he’s going to need his partner’s support. Because, from the looks of the trailer that was released at Comic-Con, a lot of trouble lies ahead:

So, we’re going to need to know more about this magic wand.

Here’s what else we can expect from the film, per Netflix:

“Set in an alternate present-day where humans, orcs, elves, and fairies have been co-existing since the beginning of time, this action-thriller directed by David Ayer (Suicide Squad, End of Watch, writer of Training Day) follows two cops from very different backgrounds.

Ward, a human, and Jakoby, an orc, embark on a routine night patrol that will alter the future of their world as they know it. Battling both their own personal differences as well as an onslaught of enemies, they must work together to protect a young female elf and a thought-to-be-forgotten relic, which in the wrong hands could destroy everything.”

Well, that certainly sounds ominous. See how it all plays out when Bright hits Netflix on December 22nd.
