A coastguard search after a boat capsized off the coast of Larne, County Antrim, has been called off for the evening.

Lifeboat crews and a coastguard helicopter were deployed in a rescue operation earlier on Monday.

The Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI) was informed that a catamaran had overturned about 12 miles (19km) off the Larne coast on Monday afternoon.

Two all-weather lifeboat crews from Larne and Red Bay RNLI stations were involved in the operation, an RNLI spokeswoman told BBC News NI.

She said a coastguard helicopter from Prestwick in Scotland also assisted.

It is understood that two P&O ferries on the Larne-Cairnryan route were involved in the operation earlier on Monday evening.
