Paloma Faith cast as villain in Batman TV prequel
Singer Paloma Faith has been cast as the villainess in the upcoming Batman prequel series Pennyworth.
According to Warner Horizon Scripted Television (per Deadline), Faith's character will be a "spirited, sadistic and sharp-tongued villain."
As the series is set in the 1960s, before the time of the Dark Knight, don't go expecting her to be Poison Ivy or Catwoman or anyone like that. Although maybe she could be playing one of their relatives...
Pennyworth is a 10-episode series that will follow the early life of Bruce Wayne's legendary Butler Alfred Pennyworth (played by Endeavour's Jack Bannon), a former British SAS solider in his 20s, who forms a security company and goes to work with billionaire Thomas Wayne.
Bannon's Alfred is described as a handsome, cheerful and charming young, and the series will see Alfred struggle to reconcile the kind-hearted boy he used to be with the cold, calculated killer he was forced to become.
Meanwhile, the rest of the Pennyworth cast is taking shape too as Our Girl's Ben Aldridge – aka Captain James – will be playing the young, fresh-faced billionaire Thomas Wayne.
Based on the DC characters created by Bob Kane and Bill Finger, Pennyworth comes to us from the same writing team as Gotham, although the creatives have already said that there won't be any link between the two series.
Production on Pennyworth gets underway on October 22 at Warner Bros Studios in the UK, and a premiere date has yet to be confirmed.
