“It’s not appropriate for me to comment on her medical condition, and I wish her the very best,” he said on the social media platform X.

Pelosi spokesman Ian Krager didn’t provide any details on her condition, the injury or how it occurred in the statement, except that she sustained the injury during “an official engagement” of the congressional delegation, which marked the 80th anniversary of the Battle of the Bulge.

Pelosi was admitted to a hospital and “is currently receiving excellent treatment from doctors and medical professionals,” Krager said. She “continues to work” but is “unable to attend” the remaining events on the trip.

Many of the congressional delegation members had relatives who fought in World War II, including Pelosi’s uncle, Johnny, Krager said.

Pelosi, the first and only woman to be US House Speaker, stepped down from the post in 2022, saying she wanted to make way for a new generation of Democratic legislative leaders.

Pelosi worked behind to the scenes to encourage and guide Democratic lawmakers as they pressed President Joe Biden to drop his reelection bid earlier this year, highlighting her enduring influence in the party.
