Police reveal grisly detail after arresting parents of school shooter
The 15-year-old boy who killed four people during a school shooting and his parents have showed "no remorse", the local sheriff said, while revealing the disturbing amount of ammunition the teen had.
At around 12.50pm on November 30, Ethan Crumbley allegedly emerged from the bathroom at Oxford High School in Michigan with a gun his father bought him just four days earlier.
He opened fire on students in the hallway, killing four and wounding six. He was captured by deputies within minutes of the shooting and was later charged with murder and terrorism.
His parents, James and Jennifer Crumbley, were arrested after they went on the run following charges of involuntary manslaughter.
Speaking to MSNBC, following the arrest of Ethan's parents, Oakland County Sheriff Michael Bouchard said the family is showing "no remorse".
"We've seen no remorse," he said.
"I don’t know whether the sullenness is from being caught or whether it’s from other emotions that are going on, but they haven’t expressed it to us."
Sheriff Bouchard said the Crumbleys have been quiet and haven't been talking to the authorities.
Mr and Ms Crumbley were captured in a commercial building in Detroit that housed artwork on Saturday, and Detroit Police Chief James E White said it appeared the couple had been hiding.
Hana St Juliana, 14; Madisyn Baldwin, 17; Tate Myre, 16; and Justin Shilling, 17 died in the horrific shooting, which has been the most deadly of 2021.
Alleged shooter Ethan Crumbley is also being charged for their deaths.
Oakland County Prosecutor Karen McDonald said at a news conference while it was Ethan who pulled the trigger, others needed to be held accountable for the tragedy.
Parents 'obviously' supplied ammunition
Sheriff Bouchard told MSNBC within minutes of arriving at Oxford High School, the suspect was in custody and he still had 18 rounds of live ammunition on him.
"Well, obviously his parents had to purchase it," he said.
"No, he can't legally buy ammunition. He can't legally possess or own a pistol."
Just days before the shooting on November 26, Mr Crumbley purchased Ethan a 9mm Sig Sauer at a shooting goods store, Ms McDonald previously said.
Ethan shared a picture of himself holding the semi-automatic handgun to Instagram, calling it his"new beauty" and on November 27, Ms Crumbley shared a picture to social media, saying "mom and son day testing out his new Christmas present".
Two days later on November 29 a teacher at Oxford High School notices Ethan searching for ammunition on his phone in class and reported it to officials.
When the 15-year-old met with the school counsellor and another staff member, he said he and his mother recently went to the shooting range and said shooting sports were like a family hobby.
School personnel call his mother, leave a voicemail and email her, she did not respond.

While exchanging text messages with her son, she writes: “Lol. I’m not mad at you. You have to learn not to get caught.” That night, Ethan Crumbley records a video in which he discussed killing students.
On the day of the shooting, concerns were raised when a teacher found an alarming note on Ethan's desk, which included drawings of handguns and the words: "The thoughts won’t stop. Help me".
Ethan was taken from class, and when pressed by the counsellor, he reportedly said the drawing was part of a video game he hoped to create.
His parents were called to the school and it was determined Ethan posed no risk, given what he said and his parents were asked to take him home for the day, a request they refused.
He returns to the classroom rather than go “home to an empty house,” which the superintendent says is because he had no prior disciplinary infractions.
James and Jennifer Crumbley entered not guilty pleas to each of the four involuntary manslaughter counts against them during a hearing held on Zoom.
