Police reveal why they searched Cleo Smith's home three times

Western Australia's Acting Police Commissioner Col Blanch has revealed why Cleo Smith's family home has been searched numerous times.

Four-year-old Cleo was last seen on October 16, at the Blowholes campsite in Western Australia.

While police believe Cleo was abducted from her tent in the early hours of October 16, investigators and forensic teams have combed through Cleo's Carnarvon home.

Speaking to 6PR, Acting Comm Blanch was very clear this is normal practice in any police investigation.

"That is standard practice in any investigation, we must do a thorough investigation," he said.

He added Cleo's parents have been "nothing but helpful" and have worked with detectives throughout the police's investigation.

"They've led us into the home, they led us into their car, their phones, everything, that is a normal part of investigation, and we must follow it through thoroughly," Acting Comm Blanch said.

"Our job is to eliminate everyone that was at that campsite and that is a systematic and thorough approach of doing so in any investigation and that really is the focus of the investigation at the moment."

Police have been trying to track down a mysterious vehicle which was seen in the area on the Saturday morning.

Acting Comm Blanch said there is a team which is focused on CCTV footage along the Coastal Highway, where the car was seen travelling south from Blowholes Road.

"It's not to say that we're saying that that is the person, but certainly driving around at 3am coming out of there would pique our interest as to who it was and what they were doing there and maybe what they saw themselves."

6PR's Gareth Parker asked Acting Comm Blanch if he still believes Cleo was bundled up in her sleeping bag and abducted from the tent.

He said it was the scenario which has the "highest probability", though he said police are still keeping an open mind in the investigation.

With a $1 million reward up for anyone who can provide information which leads to Cleo's location, bounty hunters have now joined the search.
