Police seize 7500 cannabis plants in $10m drug haul

More than 7500 cannabis plants have been found in 14 commercial-scale greenhouses in regional Western Australia.

Organised Crime Squad detectives spent all weekend dismantling the elaborate cultivation operation at a property in Red Gully, north of Gingin.

“The scale and sophistication of this operation was significant,” a police spokesman said.

Nobody was there when officers arrived, and investigations into the culprits are continuing.

The bust was undertaken by a special taskforce started last year after police noticed a surge in the number of grow houses in the state.

In 2017-18, the taskforce seized more than 12,440 cannabis plants and about 542kg of cannabis, and froze cash and assets worth almost $8.5 million.
