Powerball draw crowns 21 new Aussie millionaires
The winners were spread out across two states - here's where.
A total of 21 Aussies became instant millionaires overnight after Thursday's $40 million Powerball draw.
One mystery Sydney shopper, who is yet to be identified, will take home a whopping $20 million, while a 20-person strong Melbourne syndicate will each pocket a cool million each.
The Lott officials are urging Aussies to check their tickets, with the mystery Sydneysider quite possibly still unaware they've won the mega haul. The player held one of the two division one winning entries in Powerball draw 1433.
"As the winning entry was unregistered, officials from The Lott had no way to contact the ticket holder to confirm the $20 million prize," The Lott spokesperson Matt Hart said. "Instead, they’re waiting for the winner to make contact to start the prize claim process.
“Imagine going to bed tonight not knowing you’ve just won $20 million? That’s the reality for one New South Wales player after scoring a slice of the division one prize in tonight’s Powerball draw!
“All we know is that this ticket was purchased at One Stop Shop in Kirrawee, Southern Sydney. As the ticket is not registered to a player card or online account, we are unable to make a mind-blowing phone call to them this evening.
“That is why we are encouraging everyone who purchased a ticket into this week’s Powerball draw to check their entries as soon as possible because they may be the multi-millionaire we are searching for."
Syndicate members all scoop $1 million
In Melbourne, each syndicate member pocketed exactly $1,022,473.47.

However, again, some members of the winning syndicate may have yet to realise their new fortune.
The syndicate was set up by Vic Market Lotto in the Melbourne CBD, with shares sold at nine other Tatts outlets across the city.
“While members of this winning group might not know each other, they are now united by the fact that tonight they each became a Powerball millionaire,” Hart said.
“Some of these division one winning syndicate members have already begun celebrating their good fortune knowing their bank account is about to be boosted with more than $1 million.
“While we’ll be reaching out to those winners who are registered, there are still some unregistered syndicate members who may have yet to discover their good news."
The winning numbers in Powerball draw 1433 were 23, 30, 11, 8, 12, 22 and 6. The all-important Powerball number was 15.
