Pregnant wife collapses as husband announces run for US president

A Republican’s run for the US presidency in 2024 has taken a tumble after his pregnant wife collapsed halfway through his announcement that he will be seeking the Republican nomination.

Dr Rollan Roberts II was speaking at a press conference at the West Virginia State Capitol on January 20 when his wife fainted a few metres behind him.

In a video posted to Twitter, Rebecca Roberts – who is five months pregnant – can be seen swaying from side to side before she stumbles back into a large American flag.

As a man to her right attempts to grab her, the flag topples, crashing over Ms Roberts’ body with the sound echoing around the marble room as the president hopeful stops speaking.

While the man that was next to her pulls the flag stand off her, a couple to the left of Dr Roberts rush to the woman’s aid.

But it isn’t until Dr Roberts sees a fourth person move towards Ms Roberts that her husband leaves the lectern to check on his wife.

‘He had to think about whether to go to his pregnant wife’s aid’

While it’s been a week since the incident, it has only just gone viral on Twitter with many people alarmed at Dr Roberts’ apparent delay in seeing to his pregnant partner.

“You probably missed this but another Republican announced he was running for President while his pregnant wife literally passed out in the background,” one user wrote before sharing the video.

“OMG he waited for a few moments instead of running to her immediately, he was definitely thinking about continuing,” another said. “He had to think about whether to go to his pregnant wife’s aid,” commented another. “This says everything we need to know about him.”

“This doesn’t bode well does it?” someone else added. “A real man puts his wife and family first,” another said.

Rising doubt that Trump will get the Republican vote

Meanwhile it’s looking less likely that Donald Trump will get another term.

Former Senator Rob Portman told Yahoo News that he doesn’t think the former president will be the Republican nominee for president in 2024, if he even runs.

“I don’t think he’ll end up running,” he said, pointing to waning support from Republicans. “I think he said he is running because he wants to test the waters and I’m sure he likes the attention, but I think he will find that it’s not in his interest to run at the end.”
