Prince Charles reveals his final words to Prince Philip on the eve of his death

Prince Charles has revealed his final conversation with his father Prince Philip before his death in April this year, proving the Duke of Edinburgh couldn't resist one last joke before he passed.

The Prince of Wales has shared what could have been Prince Philip's final words in a new BBC One programme called Prince Philip: The Royal Family Remembers, revealing he gave his father a call to ask how he'd like to celebrate his 100th birthday.

He describes tentatively broaching the subject on April 8, knowing Philip wouldn't be keen on a party.

"We're talking about your birthday," he told his father, according to the Daily Mail.

Knowing that Philip was hard of hearing, he repeated himself more loudly this time, "We're talking about your birthday! And whether there's going to be a reception!"

Philip replied without missing a beat, "Well, I've got to be alive for it, haven't I?"

Charles told him, "I knew you'd say that!"

In the programme, Charles is joined by a full cast of senior royals to pay tribute to Philips life and legacy.

All of Philip's children and grandchildren are set to appear with Prince Harry being filmed from his home in California.

Harry speaks about Philip's marriage to the Queen and how it inspires him.

"From my grandmother's perspective, to have someone like that on your shoulder for 73 years of marriage – it doesn't get better than that," Harry tells the cameras.

Princess Anne, Philip's only daughter also recalls how her father would always read his children a bedtime story.

Prince William also paid tribute to his grandfather's sense of humour and how nothing could rattle him.

Princess Eugenie also shared that Philip was, in fact, able to meet her son August Philip, despite reports suggesting otherwise.

"I brought little August to come and meet him," an emotional Eugenie said. "I told him that we'd named him after him. It was such a lovely moment. We were very lucky to do that."

The Duchess of Cornwall spoke highly of her father-in-law, saying, "It felt like the end of an era. They're a very difficult generation to live up to but I'm very proud and very pleased that I knew him."

Charles added, "We were lucky to have him for nearly 100 years."
