Updated article on 23/9/20: Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's 'Time100' speech featured a surprising 'guest appearance' from a member of their family.

On Tuesday, the publication released their annual 'Most Influential People' list
which honours the likes of Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Billy Porter, Kamala Harris and Michaela Coel this year.

In a video, which is believed to have been filmed in the garden of the royal couple’s Montecito home, the Duke of Sussex said that he is not eligible to vote in the November 3 US election and has never even voted in the UK due to royals being expected to follow strict political neutrality.

However, having experienced criticism via social media and in the press in recent years, the father-of-one knows all to well the importance of uniting together, especially during political elections.

'When the bad outweighs the good, for many, whether we realise it or not, it erodes our ability to have compassion and our ability to put ourself in someone else's shoes. Because when one person buys into negativity online, the effects are felt exponentially,' he said. 'It's time to not only reflect, but act.’

'Every four years we are told the same thing, that this is the most important election of our lifetime. But this one is,' Markle added to camera.

At one point, the couple's message featured an unexpected appearance from their Labrador dog, Pula, who they welcomed into their family in 2018.

The canine's screen time didn't go unnoticed by some Twitter users.

‘When we vote, our values are put into action and our voices are heard. Your voice is a reminder that you matter, because you do and you deserve to be heard,' continued Markle.

'As we approach this November, it's vital that we reject hate speech, misinformation and online negativity,’ Harry noted.

'We are incredibly proud to join in this historic moment in time,' the royal concluded their video message before the couple thanked viewers for watching the clip.

The video comes days after activist Gloria Steinhem revealed she and Meghan cold-called Americans to urge them to vote when they met earlier this summer.

‘She came home to vote,’ the feminist told Access Hollywood. ‘The first thing we did, and why she came to see me, was we sat at the dining room table where I am right now and we cold-called voters.'

'She said “hello I'm Meg” and “hello I'm Gloria” and “are you going to vote?” That was her initiative.'

While the Duke and Duchess of Sussex didn’t voice their support for a particular presidential candidate, Meghan did described President Donald Trump as ‘misogynistic and divisive’ during a 2016 appearance on The Nightly Show with Larry Wilmore.

Meanwhile, Harry has had numerous meetings with former US president Barack Obama over the years and interviewed him on an episode of BBC Radio 4's Today Programme in 2017.
