Prince Harry and Meghan Markle Revealed the Name of Their Non-Profit

With the Sussex Royal "brand" behind them, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are forging ahead with their life away from the royal family. According to Harper's Bazaar, the former senior royals announced the name of their new non-profit venture: Archewell. Harry and Meghan started the process back when they filed a trademark application with the United States Patent and Trademark Office on March 10 and thanks to the fact that all submissions to the office are public domain, the secret didn't stay secret for long.

Meghan and Harry released a statement explaining the name and its sweet connection to their son, Archie. The two acknowledged that the world is handling a pandemic the moment and said that while many will think that the charity's name is inspired by Archie, it actually goes the other way.

"Like you, our focus is on supporting efforts to tackle the global COVID-19 pandemic but faced with this information coming to light, we felt compelled to share the story of how this came to be,” a statement from the couple reads. “Before SussexRoyal, came the idea of ‘Arche’ — the Greek word meaning ‘source of action.’ We connected to this concept for the charitable organization we hoped to build one day, and it became the inspiration for our son’s name."

"To do something of meaning, to do something that matters," the statement continued. "Archewell is a name that combines an ancient word for strength and action, and another that evokes the deep resources we each must draw upon."

Bazaar adds that the trademark covers "movies to podcasts, clothing to charitable services, and even online seminars, lectures, and retreats" but that the couple wanted to cast a wide breadth so that they could protect the new brand name.

"The list of trademarking categories is extensive for protection purposes only," a source close to Meghan and Harry told Bazaar. The magazine adds that contrary to rumors, there are no plans for Meghan to launch a lifestyle website.

"We look forward to launching Archewell when the time is right," the statement concludes.
