'Tormented': Prince Harry and Meghan Markle 'struggling to cope'

Prince Harry is reportedly feeling "tormented by his fractured family ties" while wife Meghan Markle is also "struggling" to cope with her new life and her legal battle with British newspapers.

A royal insider has claimed the couple, who stepped back from royal duties in March, is facing a lot of tension in their new life.

“[Meghan] has gone very quiet. I think she is likely to be feeling extremely low and probably struggling,” they told the Sunday Mirror.

They also revealed Harry was feeling "particularly down on William's birthday on June 21".

After the couple left the UK, they spent some time in Canada, before moving to Meghan's native LA.

The insider said Meghan had become "more distant" and "introverted" in recent weeks leaving her family "worried".

They also added, "Prince Harry must be tormented by his fractured family ties."

It was recently recently revealed in court documents that Meghan felt "unprotected" by the royal family while pregnant with son Archie.

The documents were prepared as part of Meghan's lawsuit against the publisher of the Mail on Sunday newspaper and MailOnline website, over articles that reproduced parts of a letter the duchess wrote to her father a few months after her 2018 marriage to Prince Harry.

Meghan is seeking damages from the Mail on Sunday's publisher for alleged misuse of private information, breach of privacy and copyright infringement.

The publisher, Associated Newspapers, denies her claims.

The royal insider added, "The legal battle and the increased tension it’s created with the royals due to the information that’s coming out has to be putting a lot of strain on them both."

It comes as the couple shut down their Sussex Royal charity as they shift focus to Prince Harry's eco-tourism scheme Travalyst, which hopes to help the tourist industry survive the coronavirus pandemic.
