Prince George has a bright future ahead of him, no matter what happens. Being third in line to the throne, the seven-year-old will one day grow up to be King, succeeding his father, Prince William (when he eventually gets there).

But considering Queen Elizabeth is still going strong (did you see her riding a horse at age 94?) and then Prince Charles also has to have a turn as monarch, it's going to be a while before William or George get a look in - and it seems the royal dad has big plans for what his eldest can do in the meantime.

Football fanatic the Duke of Cambridge today announced that he has starred as a special guest on That Peter Crouch Podcast, where he discussed his love of the game (and specifically, his love of team Aston Villa), as well as the important topic of mental health. In a short clip of the podcast, shared on the Cambridges' official Twitter account earlier today, the Prince can be seen walking into a room at Kensington Palace, greeting the three podcast hosts with a plate of curry. Lads, lads, lads.

The conversation covers a multitude of things, but one such topic is Prince George's future. Specifically, whether Prince William would ever give him his blessing to pursue a career in football. And, well, unsurprisingly the answer was yes.

"What if he [Prince George] got really good at football?" asked presenter Chris Stark. "Can he do the job and be up front for Villa?" he continued, in reference to being royal.

Before Chris had even finished the question, Prince William replied "Yeah!"

William then enthusiastically continued: "Definitely. I reckon he could be their all time goalscorer." Proud dad alert, and George hasn't even properly taken to the pitch yet.

Football is something that Prince William and Prince George adorably bond over. The young royal has been photographed many a time with a football at his feet, and dad and son were even photographed together in October 2019, attending a match between Aston Villa and Norwich City. It was George's first football match, and you could see the excitement on his face.

Well, it looks like Prince George might have to get down to some junior trials and realise these big dreams. He'll have his dad rooting for him all the way.
