Princess Beatrice's wedding tiara honoured the Queen

From Harper's BAZAAR

Princess Beatrice's royal wedding tiara held special significance as it belonged to the Queen, and was previously worn by Her Majesty on her wedding day in 1947.

Beatrice and Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi married in a small ceremony at The Royal Chapel of All Saints in Windsor on Friday, 17 July. The royal bride wore the Queen Mary diamond fringe tiara with a beautiful vintage gown which was also loaned by the 94-year-old monarch.

The headpiece was made for Queen Mary by E. Wolff and Co. for Garrard in 1919, and consists of diamonds set in gold and silver. It also features 47 diamond bars separated by smaller diamond spikes. The diamonds were not new, as they were a part of a piece made by Collingwood that Queen Victoria gave to Mary in 1893.

Beatrice's vintage wedding gown was designed by Norman Hartnell, who created the Queen's wedding dress and coronation dress. Buckingham Palace revealed that the dress was remodelled and fitted for Beatrice by the Queen's dresser Angela Kelly and dressmaker Stewart Parvin.

The gown is made from Peau De Soie taffeta in shades of ivory, trimmed with ivory Duchess satin, and has organza sleeves. It's encrusted with diamanté details and features a geometric bodice.

The Royal Family's Twitter account shared two official pictures from Beatrice and Edoardo's wedding day, one of which featured the Queen and Prince Philip.

In the first image, the happy couple can be smiling as they emerge from the chapel's entrance, which is adorned with pink and white flowers. In the second picture, the couple are outside the entrance with Her Majesty and Philip.

It is believed to be the first time the Queen and Prince Philip have attended a family gathering since lockdown began.

Beatrice's parents, the Duke and Duchess of York, did not feature in either of the released images. However, the palace confirmed her father walked her down the aisle.

The couple had planned to marry in May at the Chapel Royal of St James's Palace, but had to cancel the ceremony due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The palace announced that the pair had married on Friday, confirming: "The private wedding ceremony of Princess Beatrice and Mr Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi took place at 11am on Friday 17 July at The Royal Chapel of All Saints at Royal Lodge, Windsor.

"The small ceremony was attended by the Queen, the Duke of Edinburgh and close family. The wedding took place in accordance with all relevant government guidelines."
