Princess Mary to become Queen after shock interview

Royal experts have been predicting she will take the throne before the end of the year, and Princess Mary of Denmark could be set to become Queen in just a few short weeks, following reports Queen Margrethe is planning to abdicate.

With Crown Prince Frederik currently in Queensland sailing in the Audi Hamilton Island Race, Princess Mary has remained in Denmark following reports of disharmony in the family.

The scandal kicked off when Queen Margrethe’s husband Prince Henrik refused to hold back in an explosive interview with Danish magazine Se og Hør.

Blasting his wife for “playing me for a fool”, Prince Henrik made his fury over the fact he is still prince consort and not king very clear.

“My wife has decided that she would like to be Queen, and I’m very pleased with that,” he told Se og Hør. “But as a person, she must know that if a man and a woman are married, then they are equal.”

“My wife hasn’t shown me the respect an ordinary wife should show her spouse.”

The Queen’s decision has seen Prince Henrik publicly announce that he will not be buried next to Queen Margarethe at Denmark’s Roskilde Cathedral.

“It is her that is making a fool of me. I didn’t marry the Queen to be buried at Roskilde,” he said in the interview.

A report now claims that the very public controversy has spurred Queen Margrethe into action.

After increasingly handing power over to her heir Prince Frederik and his wife Princess Mary in recent years, it’s claimed the monarch is determined to abdicate in a bid to prevent any more damage to the royal name.

“She knows staying in power where Henrik will only damage the monarchy more is a big mistake and she’s even considering divorce,” a source told New Idea.

“Queen Margrethe is making plans to abdicate and Mary will be named Queen. An announcement is imminent.”

For Princess Mary, who is mum to Prince Christian, 10, Princess Isabella, nine, and five-year-old twins Princess Josephine and Prince Vincent, it’s a role she is more than prepared to play.

“These young royals are immensely popular and the future of their… monarchies are in safe hands,” the source adds.
