Producers and Directors Stand Beside John Boyega After Anti-Racism Speech

During an appearance at Black Lives Matter protests in London, Star Wars actor John Boyega voiced concerns over his future in the entertainment industry, but it seems that those fears were unfounded. Entertainment Weekly reports that many filmmakers and writers are standing alongside him and his beliefs.

"Black lives have always mattered," Boyega said. "We have always been important. We have always meant something. We have always succeeded regardless. And now is the time. I ain’t waiting."

Boyega participated in a protest near London's Parliament building and a second demonstration at Hyde Park.

"I don't know if I'm going to have a career after this but, fuck that," he added. The statements come after Boyega's tweets last week, which read "I really fucking hate racists" and "This just burns. Seems to be a never ending cycle. The murderers need to be charged severely. Even in the face of death this man was given zero empathy."

After Boyega's statements at the protest were published online, director Jordan Peele, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Black Mirror creator Charlie Brooker, and Chris Miller, the producer of Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, all voiced their support, writing that they would be proud to work with him in the future.

Boyega joins other celebrities who are out at the protests supporting Black Lives Matter. Keke Palmer also made headlines when her impassioned pleas to the National Guard at a Los Angeles protest went viral. Ariana Grande, Tinashe, Halsey, Emily Ratajkowski, and Nick Cannon also marched in protests over the weekend.
