Project host Peter Helliar's X-rated joke stuns costars

Funnyman Peter Helliar has raised eyebrows on The Project panel with his cheeky take on a phallic-shaped statue on Monday night.

The 46-year-old couldn't wipe the smirk off his face during his regular 'Wide World of Pete' segment in which he covered Cyprus's newly installed 'elongated potato' statue.

As images of the giant vegetable flashed up on the screen, Pete didn't hold back in his description of the head-turning object — much to his co-hosts' embarrassment.

"In Cyprus, a new sculpture attempting to acknowledge the region's famous elongated potatoes looked very much like... well, a wang," he said with a cheeky grin.

"It's been dubbed Potato Penis. That is one hot potato. Don't the locals love it?" he added to stunned silence from Carrie Bickmore, Waleed Aly and Steve Price.

X-rated joke

Undeterred, Pete finished up with an X-rated joke that was met with a rather uncomfortable silence.

"The potato has been circumcised," he declared. "'Peeled' is the correct term, I believe."

Keen to break the awkward tension, Carrie piped up to remark, "I didn't realise there was such thing as an elongated potato..."

"I wouldn't be getting into this discussion," Steve warned Carrie. "I'd just leave it to him."

Waleed, on the other hand, took the bait, telling Pete: "I didn't know there were wangs that looked like that, I think you should see a doctor."

"It's not me," Pete laughed in reply before mumbling something about "potato Pricey" and swiftly moving on.

From 'penis potato' jokes to pretty patterned frocks, Carrie's on-screen outfit of choice was once again hit with viewers.

The 40-year-old sported a spring-ready shirtdress by Adelaide label Significant Other with three-quarter sleeves, a waist tie and a 'Pink Sangria Floral' print.

"Always flawless! Love this fresh Spring look!" wrote a fan on Instagram. "Radiant, a fun youthful vibe," remarked another.

The linen-blend midi-length frock also comes in a mini version, perfect for when the weather warms up.
