Hungry snake makes meal of helpless bat

A Queensland couple has filmed a carpet python chowing down on a bat for dinner in the backyard of their Sunrise Beach home.

In a stomach-churning video uploaded to Facebook by Mille Stoevring and Shane Tuer, the three-metre-snake can be seen making a meal of the animal while hanging upside down in a tree.

Sunshine Coast snake catcher Stuart McKenzie told the Courier Mail the vision was some of the best he had seen.

"As snake catchers, especially when it warms up, we’re often called out to a homes where the snake is stuck in the pet enclosure after it has eaten a chicken or something like that," he said.

"You don’t often see shots of the snake halfway through its feed."

Mr McKenzie said the couple had left the snake to slither around their garden undisturbed.

“Like with any snake, if you leave them alone they’ll leave you alone - they’re more afraid of you than you are of them,” he said.
