“They ask that the press respect their privacy and that of their family.”

The couple have been married since October 1993.

The separation news comes less than a week after Peter Phillips, the Queen’s grandson, and his wife Autumn announced their split.

A statement, which was published on their behalf, explained that the divorce was “the best course of action for their two children and ongoing friendship”.

Mr and Mrs Phillips, who have been married for 12 years, confirmed they will divorce and will share custody of their children, nine-year-old Savannah and seven-year-old Isla.
