Rachel Zegler Marks 2-Year Anniversary with Boyfriend Josh Rivera: ‘Love You More and More Each Day’
The ‘West Side Story’ and ‘Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes’ actress called her boyfriend costar “the most grounded part of me”
Rachel Zegler is celebrating a special anniversary with a very special costar.
On Monday, the actress marked the 2-year anniversary of her relationship with fellow West Side Story and The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes star Josh Andrés Rivera by posting a gallery of cute snapshots of their time together to her Instagram.
“2 years!” Zegler, 22, wrote in the post’s caption. She added, “happy anniversary, whammo. i love you more and more each day.”
She concluded with a sweet parenthetical: “you are the most grounded part of me.”
Rivera, 28, can be seen giving a thumbs up in a video snippet Zegler shared within her Instagram post. Prompted by his girlfriend to say something to her parents, he says, “How are you guys doing? I’m taking good care of her!”
Zegler and Rivera met on the set of 2021’s West Side Story, in which they played Maria and Chino, respectively. Steven Spielberg’s remake of the 1961 movie musical costarred Ansel Elgort, Ariana DeBose and Rita Moreno. Although the film sets up their characters for a potential romance, Zegler’s Maria instead falls for Elgort’s Tony.
Off screen, however, Zegler and Rivera began posting photos of the two of them together, including on Valentine’s Day 2022. Accepting a best actress award for West Side Story from the National Board of Review, Zegler called Rivera “the love of my life, who I was blessed enough to meet on the set of this film.”
“Thank you for holding my hand in my dreams and in my reality,” she wrote at the time. “I love doing life with you. Thanks for making me laugh."
Weeks later at the 2022 Academy Awards, where West Side Story was nominated for seven Oscars including Best Picture, Zegler and Rivera made their red carpet debut as a couple.

Cast together again in the upcoming Hunger Games prequel The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, the two will bring to the screen characters from Suzanne Collins’ hit novel of the same name: Zegler plays District 12 tribute Lucy Gray Baird, while Rivera plays Hunger Games mentor Sejanus Plinth, friend of a Tom Blyth’s young Coriolanus Snow.
In an Instagram post celebrating their second collaboration, the Shazam! Fury of the Gods actress called Rivera “my favorite actor in the world.”

In a 2022 Elle profile interview, Zegler reflected on how her boyfriend is “able to bring me back to earth.” She said, “Because he’s removed from it to a certain degree, he’s able to just snap me out of it, and tell me to stop checking my phone, or remind me of what actually matters, and remind me to be present, and to not focus on the opinions of 3,000 faceless strangers on the internet.”
Rivera also appeared in the film Cat Person, released in October. Zegler will next voice a character in 2024’s animated Spellbound and star in Disney’s live-action adaptation of Snow White (recently delayed to 2025), playing the titular role.
The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes is in theaters Nov. 17.
