Rams, Huskies set to face off in all-Saskatchewan Hardy Cup final
The Regina Rams and Saskatchewan Huskies both pulled off dramatic upsets on the road yesterday, setting up for an all-Saskatchewan final of the Canada West conference's Hardy Cup for the first time in 22 years.
The Regina Rams pulled off a 28-25 win over the first place Manitoba Bisons in the Canada West semifinals.
Receiver Nicholas Sirleaf took a pass from quarterback Noah Pelletier and ran the ball into the end zone for a 16-yard touchdown with just 19 seconds on the clock.
Rams linebacker Garret Hatchard then intercepted Bison's quarterback Jackson Tachinski with three seconds remaining, leading to the victory.
The Huskies, meanwhile, beat the UBC Thunderbirds 38 to 33 in Vancouver after overcoming a 13-point, fourth-quarter deficit.
Quarterback Anton Amundrud threw a 33-yard touchdown pass to Ercy Avul with a minute left to go in the game to get the game within three points.
Then with 30 seconds left of the game, Ryker Frank scored a one-yard touchdown, stunning the home team.
Both the Rams and the Huskies now look toward the 87th Hardy Cup. Kickoff of the championship game is set for 1:00 PM CST at Griffiths Stadium in Saskatoon on Saturday, Nov. 9.
