The first series of Ratched has only been out for a week, but the good news is that Netflix has already confirmed a second season of the show with producer-extraordinaire Ryan Murphy continuing to head up the project.
Like us, you have probably already speed-binged series 1 of Ratched, which is based on the novel One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest by Ken Kesey, and tells the story of Nurse Ratched, a classic character from the novel (and subsequent Jack Nicholson film) who is known for being the heartless and cold head nurse of an oppressive psychiatric ward in which patients are dehumanised and exploited.
Here's everything we know about series 2 of Ratched (season 1 spoilers below)...
What's will happen in series 2 of Ratched?
The show is Nurse Ratched's origin story; with the first series beginning in 1947, it follows her evolution from nurse to fully-fledged monster, but when we left the characters at the end of season 1, there was a lot to be wrapped up, which gives us an indication of how the second series might go.
When we left season 1, Edmund had just discovered Mildred's hideaway, and with all that built up resentment between the two of them, could series 2 delve more into their relationship and involve the two of them coming together for some kind of showdown?
Ultimately, what we do know is that the show is nowhere near done with showing the evolution of Nurse Ratched's character. Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter back in 2019 Sarah Paulson said, "Ideally, by the time we’re in season four, we’re in that story of the Cuckoo’s Nest." So, it sounds like there's a lot more of the story to come.
Do we have a trailer for series 2?
Not yet, and it might be some time, since the first series has only just been released. But hey, we waited years for Game of Thrones, years for The Crown - we can handle this.
When is the release date for series 2 of Ratched?
The only bad news here is that a second series of Ratched likely won't be for some time.
"Nobody knows anything about season two because Ryan [Murphy], with the number of things he has going on, who's to know when when that's all going to begin, and you throw in the pandemic and then we think well who knows," Paulson explained at an online press conference.
But rest assured a second series is definitely still happening, despite a potentially long wait. In a further interview with The Wrap Paulson explained that she empathised with viewers.
"I like to think about it like The Crown just because I'm a desperate fan of The Crown and the amount of time I have to wait for another season always makes me so f***ing crazy," she said. "But then when it comes I'm just like a raved nut just sitting there and I devour it.
"So I like to put us into that timeframe in my mind that if people consume it the way I hope they do, they will anxiously be waiting for the next instalment when it does come. And it'll make it that much sweeter."
