Mental health importance is being brought to the forefront, and we are here for it. On Thursday, Camila Mendes opened up about struggling with eating disorders. The Riverdale actress revealed her alliance with Project HEAL via a powerful, heartfelt message on Instagram. Her hope is to raise awareness for those who struggle with eating disorders themselves.

Mendes isn’t the only celeb who’s opened up about past struggles recently. Earlier this week, Demi Lovato shared her progress in her eating disorder recovery. And last week, Olympic figure skater Gracie Gold announced that she’s seeking treatment for the same reason. We’re so proud of them for sharing their stories. Their words encourage so many fighters.

In her post, Mendes spoke from personal experience.

“I can say from experience that eating disorders are serious mental illnesses,” she wrote. “Growing up, I watched my big sister suffer from one for many years, and I’ve experienced periods of my life when I’ve suffered symptoms as well.”

Mendes’s goal for aligning with the organization is to break the stigma associated with eating disorders. According to the Project HEAL website, they offer a variety of services, including offering grants to cover treatment for those who can’t afford it. They also encourage healthy body image and self-esteem. Talk about an extremely worthy cause.

In addition to raising awareness, Mendes is also auctioning off the chance to spend a day on the Riverdale set to benefit the cause.

It makes us so happy to see celebrities use their platforms to discuss the realities of eating disorders and other mental health issues. We love that she’s not afraid to show her vulnerabilities in order to bring awareness to those in need.
