Officers patrolling the Trans-Canada Highway in St. John's say they stopped a driver on Wednesday evening after clocking him at 201 km/hr.

The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary says the 26-year-old driver was arrested and charged with dangerous driving.

He was also ticketed, had his licence suspended and his vehicle seized.

Speeding in excess of 51 km/hr over the speed limit carries a mandatory seven-day trip to the impound lot, and a docking of six demerit points.
