Roger Federer's incredible $50 million gesture revealed

Roger Federer certainly isn’t short on cash, but this is staggering.

The tennis legend’s agent has lifted the lid on the incredible amount of money Federer has donated to charity over the years.

Tony Godsick revealed to TENNIS.com on Wednesday that Federer will have given away $50 million by the end of 2018.

“As good a tennis player as he is, he’s a better person, and I get to see a lot more than the average fan gets to see of him,” Godsick said.

“All the stuff he does with his foundation—there’s a lot of foundations, they do it for their image.

“I sit on the board of his foundation, and it’s really interesting to see how engaged he is, and the amount he cares.

“By this year, he’ll have given away $50 million.”

The Swiss Maestro set up the Roger Federer foundation in 2003, opening more than a dozen educational projects for African children.

He’s also organised a number of ‘Match for Africa’ events in the last decade, playing for charity and raising around $10 million.

“These kinds of evenings are great opportunities for us, not only to raise funds, but also to raise awareness for our cause,” Roger Federer Foundation CEO Janine Handel told Tennis Channel at the Match for Africa 5 earlier this year.

“So many children are living in poverty and one of the most powerful tools to exit poverty is education, so they have a chance in life and can reach their full potential.”

How much is Federer actually worth?

According to Celebrity Net Worth, Federer has netted around $450 million (US) in his career (AU$620 million.)

His total prize money earnings sit around $163 million, but his off-court endorsements are through the roof.

Can he end 2018 as World No.1?

Rafael Nadal announced Wednesday that he will skip the Asian swing of the ATP tour because of his injured right knee.

He said on Twitter he won’t play in upcoming tournaments in Beijing and Shanghai.

The top-ranked Nadal retired in the semi-finals of the US Open earlier this month while down two sets to Juan Martin del Potro.

Last year, he won the China Open in Beijing and lost to Federer in the final of the Shanghai Masters, meaning he has a mountain of rankings points to defend.

The Spaniard tops the world rankings with 8,760 points, 1,860 ahead of Federer and 2,315 more than in-form Djokovic.
