From Cosmopolitan

  • RuPaul just announced he created a new Drag Race spin-off show that will only feature celebrity contestants.

  • RuPaul’s Secret Celebrity Drag Race premieres on April 24, 2020.

RuPaul just announced some major Drag Race news and it’s officially time to start your engines! And may the best celebrity win!

It’s been months since Drag Race fans saw their favorite queens lip-sync for their lives, but RuPaul more than made up for the break by announcing that he and his genius mind created a new spin-off that will feature an all-celebrity cast. It’s called RuPaul’s Secret Celebrity Drag Race and it's set to premiere April 24 at 9:30 p.m. Mark your calendars!

Talking to comedian Whitney Cummings at Vanity Fair’s New Establishment Summit, RuPaul explained that each episode in the four part event series will focus on three different celebs, who will have a major drag makeover by former contestants like Alyssa Edwards, Kim Chi, Monét X Change, Trixie Mattel, Miss Vanjie, and Trinity the Tuck. Basically, it’ll be like the episode where the queens had to give makeovers to social media stars like Tyler Oakley, Kingsley, and Frankie Grande. We still don't know who's gonna be on the show (hence "secret"), but the celebrity guests will compete for a title and money that will then be donated to whatever charity they choose.

Okay, so how did he come up with this idea? Well, he joked, “We have a laboratory figuring out other ways—Drag Race Junior, perhaps? Or how about Jailbreak Drag Race?” Don’t tempt us with quality TV!

Ru didn’t say which celebrities he called to be on the new VH1 show, but he’s had quite a few impressive guest judges throughout the years, so maybe they’ll come back to get a makeover. I mean, who wouldn’t want to see Lady Gaga, Kacey Musgraves, Lizzo, or Billy Eichner take the Drag Race stage again?! Time will tell!
