Russia used Iskander ballistic missile to target Zakarpattian Brigade in deadly southern front strike
Russia used an Iskander-M ballistic missile in the deadly Nov. 3 strike on the 128th Separate Mountain Assault Brigade on the Zaporizhzhian front that killed soldiers and civilians alike, said the Ukrainian Commander-in-Chief’s Strategic Communications Department on Telegram.
Russia attacked 26 settlements in the Zaporizhzhya, Polohy, and Vasylivka districts on Nov. 3. The Russian military also launched a missile attack on the personnel of the 128th Brigade.
The deaths of the soldiers were confirmed by Defense Minister Rustem Umerov. He ordered an investigation into the tragedy.

StratCom said it was currently investigating the circumstances of the tragedy and expressed condolences to the families of the victims.
Earlier, several Ukrainian servicemen reported that Russian occupation forces had attacked the soldiers of the 128th Brigade when they were lined up for an award ceremony in honor of the Day of Missile Troops and Artillery in a frontline village in Zaporizhzhya Oblast. "More than 20 dead," reported Ukraine’s Ukrainska Pravda, citing a source in the Interior Ministry.
The 128th Brigade has not made any official statements.
Social media users reported "a bunch of dead officers and soldiers."
Three days of mourning have been declared in Zakarpattya Oblast due to the tragic incident involving the 128th Mountain Assault Brigade.
A three-day regional mourning for the fallen defenders of the 128th Brigade was announced in Zakarpattya Oblast, beginning on Nov. 6, announced Governor Viktor Mykyta.
"State flags will fly at half-mast, every morning at 9 a.m. we will honor the memory of the soldiers with a minute of silence, and services will be held in churches of various denominations in the region," he wrote.
The 128th Brigade is part of Operational Command West, headquarted in Mukachevo, and its units are deployed in Zakarpattya Oblast. The brigade has participated in combat operations in eastern Ukraine since 2014. Many of the brigade's soldiers are natives of Zakarpattya Oblast.
