Woman burned alive after being electrocuted in selfie tragedy

The identity of a young woman who was burned alive after climbing into an electricity transformer “to take a selfie” remains a mystery.

Witnesses said she was electrocuted after clambering onto the power facility in Kuznetsy village, 50 miles east of Moscow.

They reported the woman - aged between 18 and 24 - was “trying to take a selfie”.

Horrific pictures show flames and smoke rising from the scene, her burned body stuck in the transformer, a mini substation.

The woman’s phone was found at the site alongside her badly burned body.

“Most likely she decided that she wouldn't touch anything and nothing bad would happen,” a witness named as Olga I said.

“But it is enough only to climb own the transformer structure to get a severe electric shock.”

The witnesses were unable to stop her, reports say.

“A female body was found on a transformer unit,” a Russian police spokesman said.

“Investigators are conducting a check into the incident.”

Police have issued an appeal for the identity of the woman because her description does not match anyone reported missing in the area. She was about 167cm.

One theory is she was visiting the area from Moscow.

Russia has been listed as second to India for selfie-related deaths.
