Salmon leather may put fish skin on the catwalk
Salmon skin is 'in'
This French company is collecting fish skin
bound for restaurant trash cans
and turning it into luxury leather
Ictyos gather 10 to 12 tonnes of skin per year
and tan them in batches of 1,000
in a process that takes around two weeks
producing leather with a resistance
similar to cow leather
(SOUNDBITE) (French) ICTYOS CO-FOUNDER AND PRESIDENT, BENJAMIN MALATRAIT, SAYING:
"Today, it's our generation's role to build the world in which we want to develop, to grow, that we will leave for our children. So, I think this logic of recycling, by using an unused resource instead of further exhausting the planet of resources, it's the basics of all good projects. And I really encourage all young companies to go for it, and dive into it."
