'It was her decision': Samantha Markle blames Meghan for Megxit
Samantha Markle, 53, has come out swinging with her thoughts on Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan’s exit from the royal family, laying the blame firmly on her half-sister.
The former Suits star’s estranged half-sibling believes her sister is the mastermind behind the Duke and Duchess of Sussex's bombshell announcement to step down as senior royals last week.
“I feel like it was her decision as she wasn’t happy with the criticism that was taking place publically,” on Samantha said on UK TV show This Morning on Friday via video link from Tampa, Florida.
Elsewhere in the interview, Samantha - who has not spoken to Meghan since 2014 - also slammed her half-sister for her two post-Megxit charity visits in Canada this week, branding it all a ‘PR stunt’.
“In my opinion, she is someone else and you know, when I saw that, it felt like a PR stunt,” Samantha said.
She went on to question the amount and type of support Meghan, 38, had contributed during her visits which included a stop at a local women’s shelter.
“My first question was, ‘how many coats and pairs of boots were the women at this shelter given?’ ‘What were the donations like?’ and so, it still is my opinion that public events are helpful and they raise awareness. But, really, people in desperate crisis situations need donations and help,” she added.
Samantha also addressed the possibility that their father, Thomas Markle, might testify against his estranged daughter when the Duke and Duchess’ legal proceedings against a UK publication begin.
“Of course he would testify,” she said.
Harry and Meghan are taking Mail On Sunday to court after it published a private letter from Meghan to her dad in February 2019.
Samantha said she was ‘speaking up’ for Thomas and claimed he is willing to take the stand so that the ‘real truth’ could be heard.
In her opinion, a reconciliation between Meghan, Thomas and herself remains ‘very unlikely’.
Samantha’s savage attack
It’s not the first time Samantha has unleashed on Meghan following her and Harry’s decision to quit The Firm.
Appearing on Sunrise on January 10, she told Kochie and Samantha Armytage that the shock news actually wasn’t that much of a surprise to her.
“Progressively as I saw royal protocol broken and the rift between the royals – especially Harry and William – increase I thought you know there’s something going on here that contradicts the definition of humanitarian and diplomat,” Samantha said.
“I see a divisiveness, I see selfishness and I thought: ‘Why isn’t she working harder to bridge the gap with our family and with the royals?’”
Megxit fallout
Following the announcement, Meghan returned to Vancouver, Canada to be with her son Archie, while Prince Harry remains in the United Kingdom to carry out his royal duties including hosting the Rugby League World Cup 2021 draw at Buckingham Palace.
Following an emergency meeting earlier this week with his grandmother Queen Elizabeth, his father Prince Charles and brother Prince William, Her Majesty released a statement in support of the couple’s move.
“Today my family had very constructive discussions on the future of my grandson and his family. My family and I are entirely supportive of Harry and Meghan's desire to create a new life as a young family,” it read.
“Although we would have preferred them to remain full-time working Members of the Royal Family, we respect and understand their wish to live a more independent life as a family while remaining a valued part of my family”.
The Duchess did not attend the crisis talks at Sandringham as it was decided her attendance ‘wasn’t necessary’.
