Schoolgirl, 11, seriously injured after being hit by 'drink-driver' in broad daylight
An 11-year-old is in hospital with life-threatening injuries after being hit by a suspected drink driver as she walked home from school.
The schoolgirl was rushed to Birmingham Children’s Hospital after being caught in a collision between two cars.
Three ambulances, two paramedic officers and the Midlands Air Ambulance raced to the scene at around 3pm on Thursday, as well as police and fire crews.
The badly injured youngster was on foot at the time she was struck.
Two men, drivers of the two cars involved, were treated by the roadside before also being taken to the town's Good Hope Hospital.
West Midlands Police said a 32-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of drink-driving and causing serious injury by dangerous driving.
A force spokesperson said: “We were called to Reddicap Heath Road, Sutton Coldfield, after a girl was hit by a car at 3pm.
“The 11-year-old girl was taken to hospital to be treated for injuries which are believed to be life threatening or life-changing.
“A 32-year-old man was taken to hospital to be treated for minor injuries. He is currently under arrest on suspicion of drink-driving and causing serious injury by dangerous driving."

A spokesperson for West Midlands Ambulance Service said: “We sent three ambulances, two paramedic officers and the Midlands Air Ambulance from Staffordshire to the scene.
“On arrival we discovered a girl, who was the pedestrian, who had suffered serious injuries in the collision.
“Following treatment on scene, she was transported to Birmingham Children’s Hospital by land ambulance.
“The Critical Care Paramedic from the Air Ambulance travelled with the patient to help continue treatment en-route to hospital."
